More jewellery trees off to market

I’m hoping they will be well received. Instead of people walking past thinking ‘Urgh! What are those things?!’, I’d like them to think ‘Oooo… they’re interesting!’.

Jewellery trees 1 They still need cleaning up and sealing but I’m getting really quick at making them now. I can usually get a whole one built and start on the next one in a night. That don’t include the cleaning… the only annoying part of making them.

Jewellery trees 2I’m taking them to a big market we have in the North of Victoria called the Murrabit Market. Murrabit is only a tiny town but it becomes completely packed with people on the first Saturday of every month when the market is on. And summer is the best time to go when there are more stall holders, so if you are a keen market goer it is worth the trip on the first Saturday in December! I’ll see you there!

In other news Jem and kids at gradOur Husband and Daddy will now be a permanent fixture in our house!

He has finished his training and is posted near home. Which means, after 9 months, I am no longer a single Mum most of the time! Oh the relief! Aus can ask Daddy millions of questions instead of Mummy. And Noah can be firmly attached to Daddy’s leg instead of Mummy’s!

In short, Mummy can swan around in relative freedom… sometimes. But sometimes is better than ‘notimes’ :)

Yup, just as I thought…

Flooded roads 4 Flooded roads 1 Flooded roads 2 Flooded roads 3

This is the detour road! How bad must the original road be?!

I watched a fire truck come through one of these wash outs and thought ‘yeah no worries, looks fine’…

… not fine!

Definitely not fine!Half way through I was hurriedly planning how I would get my kids out the windows and walk with them to safety when the car died. The water came half way up the doors!

Maybe next time I won’t equate the size of a fire truck with my sedan. Luckily we got through safe and sound, and an hour after we heard that the detour road had been closed too!

We were driving through all this water to get to lunch with this guy…

Happy Father’s Day Dad/Pa!

Sadly we couldn’t spend Father’s Day with this guy…

Lucky Daddy!

lucky daddy 4

This year father’s day is an entirely hand made affair at our house. The boys have each made their presents, Noah painted the tie on the right and Aus made a card and 2 packages with god knows what in them (I’m not allowed to look before Daddy does). Everything except the card was made at day care while I was at work, which I really appreciate. The girls who look after the kids at the centre here are terrific and both boys love going there. In fact Aus asks to go there instead of stay home with his Darling Mother on my days off! :)

I decided that instead of going out to buy something for Jem, (you know the usual socks, chocolate, book etc.) I wanted to make him something he can wear which has meaning to him.

lucky daddy 1

So I came up with this leather cuff. It’s dark red and has 2 sterling tags, each with an initial for our boys and their birthdates. They are riveted through the leather and through little washers on the back. It has some kinks in it because I have all my leather squished in to a big jar, hopefully the kinks will come out in a day or two of him wear it.

For now it only has a snap closure, but I’m designing a ‘manly’ clasp to go on soon.

I’ve also got to start thinking of ideas for a man’s bracelet that has been requested as a Christmas present. Incidentally designing ‘manly’ things is quite hard for my little mind to conceptualise. I’m working on the premise that chunky, bold and big are ‘manly’ features. But my interests lay in the complete opposite, I love delicate, petite and elegant. So it will be a huge challenge to see if you can come up with something even remotely appealing!

I’m going to leave you with this quote, it reminds me of Jem coming home each week and Aus and Noah tripping over each other trying to be first to get to him :)

The BIG day!

We’re there! We made it, I made it and he made it.

  vic_pol_002

I have basically been a single parent for 6 months and now I am so looking forward to living as a family again

Single parents out there, I salute you. It’s tough, like pull chunks of your hair out tough. I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive family though and it almost makes me cry to think of all the help I’ve received from loved ones along the way. Quite seriously I know I would never have made it without them.

After all that, tomorrow the love of my life will march out to collect his badge and become a Police Officer. Not only that, he will also collect an award and be presented with a watch engraved with his service number. So to say I am proud is a huge understatement. I think I’m going to bawl my eyes out and burst with pure glee at the same time.

Jem,

Congratulations my Darling! I love you so much and I’m unbelievably proud of your achievements. The boys will be so excited to see Daddy march out in uniform to be a ‘weeceman’. Well done babe, you’re amazing!

Love, George xx

Wish us luck!

Decisions

I made these two hair ‘accessories’ this weekend to perhaps wear to Jem’s grad ball on Friday night. But I’m unsure if I even like them or which one I want to wear.

This is the headband with pinkish/cream coloured freshwater pearls

pearls headband 2  pearls headband 1

And this is the clip with silk ribbon and brown/purpleish freshwater pearls

grad hair clip 2

grad hair clip 1

So what do we think? Ditch them and buy something pretty, or one above the other?  The colour of the clip is the same as the trimmings of the dress and the headband is the same colour as the main body of the dress.

Eeep… I just don’t know.

I also made these little flowers to go on my shoes, they will spruce them up to formal standard I hope.

grad shoe flowers

I haven’t been to anything this formal since my high school formal about 5 or 6 years ago. And in that time I’ve had 2 children so I’m not too hopeful that I will look exactly the same as I did last time :) But at least I’m giving it a go… with belly sucking in undies!

Ok off the track from belly suckers, we went to my best friend’s little girls birthday today. What a day for a 1st birthday party…

driveway

Our driveway has looked like this all week, which is very unusual and has only happened a couple of times in the last 4 years. If you look closely you’ll see hail.

Here’s what I made for the little cherub anyway,

lara birthday

Not a great photo but I was pushed for time and still had to wrap them up. They’ll look so pretty up on her wall!

I’m hoping the weather will be fine by Friday, otherwise we’ll have to stand out in the cold and wind to watch Jem march. I’ll still be excited to watch him get his badge, he’s done so well and we’re really proud of him! Can’t wait!!

Very cool quilt tutorial!

Isn't this great!?
So many cool colours and it looks easy going by the tutorial I found at Hyena In Petticoats.
Brilliant. I'm making one as soon as I find time.

Actually I've got little to no time at present. Trying my best to make toys for the orphans, which I'll show you some photos soon. Looking after Aussie Bob and working. I was meant to work today but I woke up with the worst back pain! I felt like I'd been run over with a truck!
Also been making birds and need to make some Toadstools for my first swap. I've joined swap-bot. So we'll see how all that goes.
I'm also doing some decorations for my sisters birthday party in august and trying to finish her present. Which I'm not talking about on here because she reads this blog. She'll be pretty happy with it I think.
I also need to sit down and write out a tutorial on how to use ebay. A local learning centre asked me if I'd run a course on how to use it to buy and sell- because I'm an ebay junkie. I can't go a month without having a parcel or ten on their way to me. I thinks it's more just the excitement of getting something in the mail!

And I've just been informed by J that he's organised a babysitter for tomorrow night so that we can go out to dinner. :) I love my J!

The particulars

Well, I better start off by telling a bit about myself...

I'm 22... almost 23. My name is Kristie, but everyone calls me Kris. I'm a Building Designer in Northern Victoria, Australia. I love my job and I also love to create. My grandmother tells me that I was never happy as a young'un unless there was some type of creative implement in my hand. That is still true. I don't get as much time as I would like to create, so there are many later nights before work in the morning...
This is my little fella- On here I'll call him 'Aussie Bob', which is his nickname at home. I don't usually dress him like that but we had a 'rock stars' themed party and he was Freddie Mercury... obviously. Of course the lightening strikes make the outfit! :) He's 18 months old and the center of my world...
That is of course except for my soon to be hubby... I'll call him 'J'. He's sweet and kind and gentle... and a sports nut. Doesn't matter what sport, he loves it. Even GOLF!! How could he?! We're getting married in Oct, on his Grandparents 55th wedding anniversary. His grandmother is very sick though and we just hope she makes it.
Well, I think that's enough for now, next post I'll put some photos up of some things I've been making lately. Ta ta!
