Mum, avert your eyes

Seriously, if you go past this point you will ruin your birthday surprise!

The rest of you please carry on!

……

This is my new invention…

Can it be called an invention if it doesn’t actually ‘do’ anything? Well, I’m calling it that anyway. I’ve been looking at this Etsy shop for ages, wishing I could have one of the beautiful little terrariums, sadly they’re from the US and shipping costs an arm and a leg to Australia.

So I decided to make my own (actually this one is for my Darling Mother for her birthday coming up). I ordered the little globe from a wedding supply company (they’re meant for tea candles) and soldered together a fork, a spoon and a plate stand left over from a jewellery tree.

The cute little air plant came from this ebay store they have a huge range of air plants- some beautiful colours! You can buy a clump and break it up into smaller sections if you want more plants. They were also really helpful on how to look after them.

I’m so pleased with how this little idea turned out! Hopefully my Mum likes her birthday present too!

Just something I whipped up

With Christmas and then everything that took place after, I never got a chance to post about these designs

heart hook necklace 1

This one is a fave, the little copper ring hooks on to the heart to act as the clasp. It has little balls hanging on the bottom that jingle very lightly as you walk

And this has gone to Denmark with a dear friend who came back to Australia for a visit and got caught up in the floods. She still had a great time and got to see Australia like not many do - sandbagging and desperately trying to save houses.

More tiny little balls that jingle when you walk, this time in ring form. It’s so simple yet so much fun to play with.

And this is so delightful and vintage{esque}picture frame necklace 3

I’ll admit that it took a little while to make and solder all those teeny tiny bits together (without melting other bits). But I really live how it turned out!

Anyone who has any thoughts on these designs, please share, they are very welcome!

Don’t eat the paint

Sunday afternoon, we’ve walked, we’ve brunched, we’ve milkshaked and now we’ve painted:

It was always going to happen…

While we’re on the subject

I have been meaning to blog this since before Christmas. Remember this box I got at a garage sale? I was going to do it up for my brother’s 21st birthday…

Here it is all done up to the nines’.

I painted it a slate grey and attached new handles.

The outlines of the letters were lightly printed on to old pages of Shakespeare plays, then I cut them out and modge-podged them on to the box. I did several layers over top of the letters to make sure they wont come off.

I managed to get it to him only 6 months late… a record for me!

Who knows what he will put in it, boy stuff no doubt.

The Keys found a home

I loved all your suggestions for my little set of keys! I think I may have to go back to the antique store and grab a few more for jewellery purposes.

But this is what became of these:

Old frames from the op shop- $5

Old keys and brass fittings from the local antique shop- $10

Print from here- $10

White enamel paint – $20

$45 is pretty darn cheap for this fun wall art methinks!

What think you guys?

What should one do with these?

You’ll see what I’m doing soon, but I want to know what YOU would do with them?

Sorry, busy swanning…

Yep, that’s me, busy swanning around Bendigo ON MY OWN! I’ve left the kids with the Hubby and zoomed down the highway at a million miles an hour :)

While I’m relaxing at my sister’s house (and sleeping past 9am! Yes!) I thought I’d show you some photos that Jem took of me at work in the studio- just don’t look at the mess:

I’m really liking free-flowing designs just now, here are a few more examples:

A heart ring and this pendant which was me first try at making my drawn design (the green one)…

sketches 3It was going to be a ring but I decided that it wouldn’t survive well and would bend. So it became a pendant…  Curly pendant 3Curly pendant 1

Are you a fan of free-flowing designs, or are conformed shapes more appealing do you think?
