Short bloggy break

Some wonderful people have come to visit us all the way from Denmark. I loved them dearly when I was 16 and still do. It makes me so happy to see my children taking to them as I did ( and them taking to my children ). So I'm taking a little break from blogging until next week so I can spend as much time as possible with Mor and Far... Yes I do call them Mum and Dad. Lol.

So try not to blog about anything vitally important until next week so I can check it out pretty please?!

Time out

Sometimes time away from the studio is good too...

Ouch!

Really, anyone who solders in shorts and no apron deserves a burn like this! Bloody Idiot!

Ginormous weekend!

Yes I'm just getting around to writing about my weekend now... I'll admit it, I'm lazy. And it's hot. Like 41 degrees at 2pm hot! Gah! The house is starting to heat up despite my best efforts to cool it. 3 days of baking heat tends to do that I guess.

Anyway, last weekend was the most fun I've had shopping in ages. Not normal shopping though, I think the count ended at 6 garage sales and 4 op shops in the Bendigo area. We stayed at Jem's brother's house and I snuck off at 7am to visit the garage sales I mark on my iphone map! The first one I went to was AWESOME! It was at the fire station in Maiden Gully and all the profits were going to the local stations. There was so much stuff! These are what I took home with me...

lamp
The coolest retro 70s lamp ever!! I love this so much that every time I look at it I get all warm and fuzzy inside. $5 was beyond a bargain!!!

holly-hobby
A Holly Hobby sewing machine for $2. I don't know what I'm going to do with it though, I was thinking of putting it on ebay but I think it looks nice just being in my studio!

wood-box
And this wooden box sort of like a foot locker. I'm going to sand it right back and either paint it or give it a glossy coat.

I also managed to get a $15 black LEATHER lounge suit for my brother when he moves into the batchelor pad next year. It was in such good contidion and had a 3 seater, 2 x 1 seaters and an ottoman. Seriously it was worth so much more and my brother was pretty pleased :) (it's part of his christmas present)

Then it was off to the oppys, where I found this:

plate

A pretty cake plate right? I thought that too but I was wondering if $7 was a little too much. Until I turned it over and saw that it had 'Royal Albert' written on the underside. My Mum taught me a bit about plates and which manufacturers are worth collecting. So I took it home and perused the Royal Albert website and eventually found it... you can still buy them for a neat $100. *Happy Face* So all I have to do now is hang onto it for another 20+ years and it might worth more :)

There were lots of other goodies that came home like toys and balls etc. which Aus has been having a lovely time playing with.

Then we came home and Sunday was a big day. After much hard work this is what my studio now looks like:

new bench

corner with lights

stuff-on-the-desk

I made myself a new bench (with a little help from Hubby)! Oh the delights of having space!! Now all I need is new curtains and it will be the perfect space for my needs. Oh and I so have a few recent additions:

rock-tumbler
My new rock tumbler- don't worry, I'm not tumbling rocks. It's going to make my jewellery all shiny :)

dremel-stuff
And these little doo-dads are for my new dremel tool that my parents gave me for my birthday... hours of fun to be had with this stuff!

So there it is, a huge weekend, filled with shopping and building and creating!
Hope the next one is as exciting for you, seeing as how I'm off to an auction and a twilight market! Yay!

I'm not proud of it...

This is what happens when Mum is up creating until 3am. Too tired to hold my child's bottle. Like I said... Not proud.

On the up side, soon I'll have a tutorial up and a big event which will include more giveaways!

Summer time fun... Except it's not summer!

Oh well doesn't mean a special Aunt can't take you for your first ever outside paddle!

Even if you weren't that impressed ;)

Vintage find, Bigamy- we could all be at risk!

The Weekend Magazine 1958

Woman Magazine 1951

I found these 2 magazines at a garage sale on Saturday. They were $2 each and are from 1958 and 1951 respectively. I've put them in frames because they are so cool but now I am kicking myself that I didn't buy more, there were at least 10 there! DOH!

Before they went behind frames I had a good old read. Some of the articles are gob-smackingly funny! Some make you cringe at the lack of ambition or women (I'll show you) and some and are just weird. Let's start with the headline article shall we? (if you can't read any click on them and it will take you to the flickr page where you can see them bigger)

What makes a man commit bigamy?

Moods, tantrums and peculiar logic? AHEM!

Bigamy

Hmm... could it be you?!

Bigamy, ask yourself these questions

According to this, it could!! Lol. I'd like to know where they got their statistics from!

Bigamy statistics

This is what I meant about women. Numbers 1, 10 & 11 are cringe-worthy!

Do you really know your boy?

And just to prove how long the paparazzi have been around...

Camera on the stars, Brigitte Bardot

Surprise, Brigitte Bardot

Look what is forecast for fashion in 1958!

Special Fashion Forecast- 1958

Organ donation way back when, why not get your eyes cut out? Do you think many people signed up after reading that?

I see with a dead man's eye!

Organ donation in the 1950s

And here are some weird stories and funny headlines:

High dive Grandma... at 63!

'Even Diana has gone all spiritual'- lol

She got letters from a ghost!

Oh no! Not from the nurses panties!!

His life hung by and thread... from the nurse's panties!

I just like how happy she looks about having those things stuck to her boobs!

Sensational Bra

'Hullo Murderer' lol

I stepped out, gun in hand, and said 'Hullo Murder'

Really? In their sleep? Was quit smoking hypnosis around that far back?

They smoke in the sleep!

Hubby will like this one...

Drowned in beer!

There is more on my flickr page if you didn't get enough in this post. I'm so glad I got at least these 2, it's like a window back in time!

First in best dressed!

First, another order to send off tomorrow. I love the name Mikaeli! The photo doesn't show it very well but all the pearls are a slightly different colour, the center one being the darkest. I hope this is what you meant Jo! :)

Now for something different. I found this in an op shop and couldn't bare to leave it there, so I paid the princely sum of 10c and took it home. This is all done by hand!! Why would someone spend so many hours creating such loveliness and then give it to the oppy? So many teeny tiny stitches! I can't remember what you call it, anyone?

Anyway it has been rescued, but now it needs rescuing again. I don't have girls and really I can't think of any use I could put it to. I think it needs to go to someone who will treat it lovingly and make something brilliant out of it!

So the first person to say they want it, shall have it. Better be quick!! I would love to see what you make it into!

Oh yes I have been busy... grab yourself a cuppa!!

all together

Yup. Busy. Hence hardly any blogging to speak of. Sorry. (ahem) But now I have lots to show and tell, so that cuppa will come in handy for this post....

6 new Jewellery Trees are up for grabs and I thought that I would let people who come to visit my blog have the first pick. If you want one email me (address on side bar) and tell me which one you would like. Hopefully the one you want is still available. They are $80 AUD plus $15 AUD for postage (in Australia). If by this time next week they are not all gone I'll list the left overs on my etsy shop (also on the side bar).
These have all been sealed and if wont tarnish so no polishing required! (I know you've got better things to do!)

If you need to see any more pics of any of these, click the photos and it should direct you to the flickr set the photo comes from. There are several close ups of each tree.

Ok here's No. 1:

jt1_12

jt1_10

jt1_8

jt1_4

This tree was built up from a silver plated goblet that I cut off. It is pretty sturdy and tall for the longer necklaces. All the trees have at least one ring holder as you can see in the photos.

No. 2:

jt2_8

jt2_4

jt2_11

jt2_6

jt2_10

This one is built on a silver plated bowl with a silver plated goblet soldered to the bottom. Then a flattened spoon on top of that is the base for the branches. This one has 2 ring holders.

No. 3:

jt3_6

jt3_5

jt3_4

jt3_3

Again this in a silver plated bowl with a silver plated goblet on top. This one is really quite tall and would be good for those long necklaces. 2 ring holder on this one too.

No. 4:

jt4_1

jt4_3

jt4_7

jt4_8

jt4_6

I really like this one and so does Jem (not that his opinion counts on jewellery storage, hehe). The bottom ring was actually off the bottom of a bowl that I took off. It sat in my studio for a few weeks before I had the idea to use the forks. It's really sturdy and again tall. This one has 1 ring holder.

No. 5:

jt5_2

jt5_3

jt5_6

jt5_7

jt5_4

This one is based on a silver plated goblet that I put little legs on (came off another bowl). It's tall as well and has one ring holder. This one has a special feature of the double spoons (in the pic), I cut off the handle of one spoon and soldered it to the bowl of another. It seems pretty strong because I hit it a few times with my pliers to see if it would fall off!

No. 6:

jt6_5

jt6_2

jt6_11

jt6_8

jt6_9

This one is my absolute fave. Again it's a goblet on top of a bowl and a spoon on top of that. The branches come out around the spoon. The thing I like best about it is (as you can see in the last photo it has 3 spoons spaced on top of each other in the middle. I just think it looks cool :) It's again tall (why don't we just say they're all tall?!) and has one ring holder.
..............................................

Phew!! That took a while didn't it? Thanks for cruising on til the end. Tomorrow there will be another post about the new earrings I have made. Also thought I might do a give away to go with it. Keep your eye out!!

Superpops

This is my effort at making Ms. Curlypops into a super hero. A flattened spoon with a cape and black hair. With no arms she might have trouble saving people but she is 'super' so I'm sure she would find a way!

Go here if you are scratching your head in confusion!

Playing along

I've been tagged by Casey to play along with this photo meme. Here's ow to play:
1. open your first photo folder
2. scroll to the 10th photo
3. post the photo on your blog and tell the story behind it
4. tag people to do the same

This is my photo- Aus as a 3 month old when we were going to Melbourne to pick up my brother from the plane (after a year in Switzerland). He loved this octopus toy but especially loved to suck on its legs. Strangely enough Aus saw this pic just before I posted it, he pointed and said 'Baby Brother!'. So maybe they do look more alike than I thought!
